SDR CTF: Weather Radio

Requirements: Basic audio client, windows or linux
Capabilities: Reception of VHF for NOAA Weather Reports and Warnings

While your car radio may tune from 87.5 MHz through 108 MHz, those emergency weather radios tune from 162.40 MHz through 162.55 MHz. Your SDR dongle can receive both ranges. You can look-up the frequency for your county here at: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/coverage/ccov.php?State=OH

Or you can tune your center frequency up to 162 MHz and spot the spikes. You see below where my closest station is 162.55 MHz yet you can see weaker signals from 162.45 and 162.50.

When you select the signal, you may still be in Wide FM mode. Note how the audio-level improves when you change to Narrow FM.
